Textiles and Art as Resistance across the Globe
This project explores how textiles and artistic expression have been used across different cultures as tools of resistance against oppression. By examining African American quilts, Hmong story cloths, Arpilleras in Chile, quilting bees, Black Lives Matter art resistance, historic use of Andean textiles, Bob Marley and music as resistance, South African textile resistance, and the Khadi movement in India, this project shows how art and textiles have been used to communicate stories of oppression, identity, and resistance.
